The more recent models of satellite phone units today have strong internal antennas, and are more compact and light weight than their predecessors. Satellite Phone Antennas should be secured fast onto the satellite phone unit for it to function well. External antennas are especially needed when you’re making the call from a moving vehicle. During a voice call, you should make sure that your antenna is at least 80% exposed to the sky for better reception. For units whose antennas may be rotated, the correct deployment of satellite phone antennas is vertical, towards the sky, and away from trees and tall buildings. Try to avoid using your satellite phone near other radar devices which may interfere with its frequency.
Recent satellite phones with strong internal antennas still come with car kits that include attachable external antennas. These external antennas are used just in case the signal in the area is weak.
